Wrap-up: Vogue Knitting Live NYC 2020

Well, what can I say. My first time at VKL was a whirlwind. I haven’t been to New York City in a long time and I felt like a hobbit leaving the Shire and venturing out into the great wide world. It’s a couple days later and I’m still recovering. I had a blast tagging along with Kim of Kim Dyes Yarn and helping her with her booth. We set out Thursday morning and made good time driving to NYC. Unfortunately there was a snafu with the shipping company and we couldn’t set up until Friday morning. Disappointment aside, we said hi to friends, then went out and grabbed a bite to eat and shopped.

The Marriott Marquis hotel is right in Times Square so there was plenty to do and see. We ate at Juniors and went to the Disney store where we bought matching Baby Yoda T shirts. That was pretty satisfying, and the thrill of getting some decent Baby Yoda merch cheered us up a bit.

The boxes showed up at the loading area promptly at 7 am Friday, and we got everything set up by mid-day. The booth looked fantastic and we got a steady stream of traffic until close. Besides seeing all the beautiful designs and yarns people are wearing, one of the best parts of the event is a chance to meet people you admire. There are quite a few that I fangirl over, but I never expected them all to be so nice and genuine in real life. It was a treat to get to see them and their work in person. Unfortunately, there were a few people I missed out on meeting, so I’ll have to stalk them next time.

I did a lot of shopping on my breaks because I had to have all the yarn and I didn’t want FOMO. I refuse to feel guilty about buying something beautiful. I kept hearing a lot of people saying they have too much yarn and can’t buy anymore, blah, blah, blah, and I wanted to say, “its OK”. Life is too short to deny the things that bring you joy. It’s all part of the experience.

There are so many highlights I can’t even count them all and it’s all kind of a blur, but I will post some pictures of things that stood out. My head is swimming with ideas and inspiration and I can’t wait for next year!

Our view of Times Square from the hotel room. This hotel is gigantic. It’s the biggest one I’ve ever been in. I felt like such a small town girl. But, Queen Bee was there outside to reassure me I could handle it.

Kim’s lovely booth all set up. She does such amazing work! I was so happy to see that the debut of Stitch Three Together was a huge success for the trio.

I’m digging this mohair-y vibe…
