My Favorite Fiber Tools and Equipment
People always ask me what wheels and equipment I have. Here is my current list as of Summer 2018. Just a note: I do not have an endorsement deals, these are just the tools I like to work with the most.
Spinning Wheels
I primarily spin on a Majacraft Aura wheel with an Overdrive head. I recently purchased a Little Gem for travel, and I also have an Electric Eel Wheel. This is a great little inexpensive e-spinner that I backed on Kickstarter. It's good for spinning thinner traditional yarns and is really lightweight and portable. It's about as loud as a sewing machine so I can use it while watching tv without too much trouble in the volume department. Overall I am very pleased with this little wheel.
Drum Carders
I have two: a Double Wide Strauch Mad Batt'r and a Majacraft Fusion Engine. I love them both for different reasons. The Mad Batt'r is my go-to for jumbo gradient art batts and the Fusion Engine is portable for demos and great for carding fine fibers.
Fiber Prep
I have a blending board that I made from a bamboo cutting board and carding cloth. I don't use it too often, but it's pretty good. I'm having too much fun with my new drum carders right now. I also have Strauch hand carders and a really nice set of combs from Three Ravens.
Wool Wash/Scour
I use Unicorn Power Scour for scouring raw fleece. I also love Unicorn Fibre Wash and Namaste Wash 'n Dye for longwool locks and low grease fleece.
I use Unicorn Fibre Wash and SOAK for washing finished yarn. I find that I like the scents and they do a good job without leaving much residue.
