Corespinning Alpaca Cloud Yarn

In this class, you will learn how to make the softest, fuzziest yarn from alpaca fleece using the corespinning technique which takes advantage of the beautiful airy insulating properties of this particular fiber. Corespinning is an easy to pick up technique that is very forgiving for beginners and shows off textures and colors very well. This style of bouncy yarn is great for blankets, hats, and quick-knit wearables for those cozy winter nights by the fire.

Skill Level/Prerequisite:
Basic wheel spinning (singles)

Student Required Equipment and Materials:
Spinning wheel (with large orifice preferred)
“Grabby” mohairy blend fine/lace weight commercial yarn for core
Fiber will be provided, but it’s recommended to bring about 2-4 ounces of carded or   loose fleece or roving and add-ins if desired

Hosted by Fibernate

Sat., January 30, 2016
Experiment with your creativity in this two part class for knitters and spinners. Students will begin in the Color Theory class, and then break out into classes to knit and spin with their newly acquired color knowledge.

Class 1: Designing with Color

10:00 to 11:00 am

Class Fee $25.00

Taught by Elysa Darling of 222 Handspun
In this class you will learn how to design yarn and textiles using color schemes you choose during our exploration of color theory. We'll look at how to mix different fiber colors and combine values for interesting effects. (The class is primarily for spinners, but knitters are welcome too!)

There will be a free fiber sharing table for the spinning activities. If spinning, please bring your wheel or spindle and 2-3 bobbins for plying. If knitting, you will be making some swatches so bring a selection of needles and solid colored yarns in various colors. Some worsted weight yarn supplies will be provided for experimentation.

Optional mixed fiber packs can be purchased directly from Elysa for $15, and there will be a free fiber sharing table that students can sample from.

Class Fee $40.00.
In this class you will learn how to design and create a narrative art yarn using color, texture, and spinning techniques to tell your unique story. We'll look at influences in traditional storytelling, selecting color palettes, and creating texture by combining different fiber prep and spinning methods.
